| Convenience: |
| We do everything to simplify your life as a pet owner. We are open 6 days a week! This includes being open until 8PM on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, and until 5PM on Saturday. |
| Regular Health Examinations: |
| These may take the form of annual health exams associated
with vaccine renewal and routine testing for parasites; or they may be
the start in the problem solving process when your pet is "ADR" (Ain't
Doin Right).
We routinely see pet birds, reptiles and small mammals as well as dogs and cats. We do not see food animals, horses, pot-belly pigs, ostriches, emus, llamas, etc. This allows us to focus our knowledge and time to serve you better. We are strong promoters of preventive health care. The exam is the cornerstone of that process; allowing us to diagnose and intervene early in any disease process - thereby minimizing both cost and damage to your pet. Some examples of our preventive health care are the Puppy Program, Kitten Program and the Golden Age Program. Our Cardinal Rule at the Animal Care Center is: "We Diagnose before we Treat" |
| Vaccinations: |
| With routine use of vaccinations we can effectively prevent
common and sometimes deadly diseases. We provide the best in well tested
and properly handled vaccines. Over the counter and catalogue vaccines go
through several sets of hands before they reach the consumer. Any mishandling
in that process can destroy the vaccines effectiveness; therefore we do
not recommend these vaccines and do not acknowledge their validity in protecting
your pet. That means they are not acceptable for boarding and grooming
purposes.
There is a controversy brewing about the use of vaccines and the appropriate intervals for various vaccines. A tiny minority of veterinary hospitals are beginning to recommend vaccinating on a much less frequent basis. The interval varies with each vaccine. At this point we have not altered our recommendations for vaccine frequency. Most vaccines require annual boosters to maintain a trustworthy level of protection. These recommendations are likely to evolve as we get more reliable information on "duration of immunity" for each vaccine. The problem with changing now is that the studies so far have not validly assessed that issue. We feel that it is our responsibility to use good science, not speculation to guide our decisions on your pets' safety. We are monitoring the situation and will react when information justifies action. |
| Dental Care: |
| Our clients recognize the value of regular dental exams and
cleaning. Fresher breath, longer life and decreased pain are the results
of an active approach to dental hygiene. 85% of dogs and cats need dental
cleaning and root planing under anesthesia by the time they are 3 years old.
Although anesthesia done our way is not high risk, it is an expense that
can be delayed or prevented with dietary controls such as Science Diet T/D,
and tooth brushing. Once we have cleaned the teeth and roots, following our
instruction on home maintenance helps maintain that healthier, more comfortable
mouth for your pet.
Our specialized dental services include cleaning, polishing, root planing, flouride treatments, extractions when indicated, oral surgery and referrals to specialists for endodontics and caps. |
| Pet Lodging: |
| We have spacious indoor, climate controlled pet lodging areas
to ensure your pet's comfort during its stay. We can provide customized
care for your pet, too, such as giving medications and accommodating special
feeding or exercise requirements. VIP Care adds an even higher level of daily
attention for your baby.
Those pets requiring more constant supervision can be accommodated via hospitalization (the medical facility is open 6 days a week). Our animal caretakers provide the daily dose of love and basic care. The veterinary staff is available as needed to save you needless worry while you are away. |
| Grooming: |
We offer professional grooming, including breed-specific
clipping, along with basic baths to maintain your couch mate in a fresh
and comfortable style. Anal gland expression and pedicure are included with
all bath and haircuts. Your conversation with our groomers will assure you
of the result you desire for your pet. We are the only grooming facility in
the area serving cat owners as well as dog lovers. |
| Retail: |
In our retail area we stock a carefully chosen selection of veterinarian
recommended diets and superior pet supplies. Our knowledgeable staff can
help you choose items that are best for you and your pet. Of course we stand
behind all of our products 100% with a money back guarantee. If you don't
find something you are looking for on our shelves, let us know and we will
gladly order it for you. |
| Emergency Services: |
| While we are open 6 days a week, we are not open 24 hours a day. Emergency services
during regular business hours are fit in around (or sometimes supplanting) regular
appointments.
In after hours life threatening situations it is best to take your pet straight to the San Jose Emergency Clinic, 408-578-5622. There is no facility south of San Jose that offers 24 hour monitoring for critical cases. |
| Wildlife Education and Rehabilitation Center: |
| Funded entirely by private donations, W.E.R.C. is both an
acute care center for wildlife and a nurturing center for orphaned wildlife
too young to survive on its own.
Animal Care Center donates over $40,000 in needed medical services to the center every year; doing 100% of the triage, surgical and acute medical services required. W.E.R.C. then handles further medical maintenance and rehabilitation needs before releasing the animal back into its native habitat - healthy, wild and free. Dr. Quick is a founder of W.E.R.C. He retired from the board in December of 2000, but is still active as an advisor and on their permanent site committee |
